Kush Strain — The Genetic Foundation of Modern Cannabis
The Kush strain, a foundation of modern cannabis. If there’s one name in cannabis that carries more influence than all others, it is Kush. It is much more than a single strain. Kush is an entire lineage of genetics derived from the original Hindu Kush mountain range in the middle east, a unique area where true “wild” or un-bred (land race) cannabis plants still grow. Many hybrid strains (OG Kush, Bubba Kush, etc.) owe their origin directly to the ancient genetics from this area. To understand Kush, is to understand where modern cannabis came from.

At Weed Wonderland, we carry a wide range of premium cannabis products — from classic strains like Kush to the latest genetics on the market.
Origins of the legend.
In the Hindu Kush mountains for thousands of years, and now also growing in other regions due to cultivation efforts, the harsh environment of the Hindu Kush mountains resulted in a form of cannabis that produced exceptionally potent resin as a defense mechanism against the extreme climate. In the 1970s and 1980s, when those genetics were first brought to the west, breeders quickly identified the incredible potential of these genetics. OG Kush was born in Florida in the very early 90s as a result of crossing Hindu Kush genetics with Chem Dawg; it would later be introduced to California, where it would become the base genetics of many modern West Coast cannabis strains. Almost all premium strains of cannabis created since the mid-90s contain Kush genetics somewhere along the line.
Flavor/Aroma.
One of the most recognizable aroma profiles found in cannabis is that of Kush — earthy, woody and extremely pungent with distinct notes of pine, fuel and a slight sweetness that becomes apparent once the bud warms up. Upon inhalation, that earthy quality continues smoothly with a mild spice finish and long-lasting dryness at the back of your throat that many consumers have learned to equate with high-quality cannabis. The dominant terpines found in Kush include myrcene, caryophyllene & limonene — each contributing to earthy, spicy and ground qualities respectively.

Effects – What can I expect?
As promised by Kush’ legendary status, the effects are heavy and physically intense — beginning with a mellow euphoria in the head and progressing to total body sedation. While initially pleasurable, Kush’ body effect will gradually overpower even the most laid-back consumer after a while. This is Kush — and this is what you should expect.
This strain is ideal for:
- Relaxation/meditation at night or during evening hours
- Consumers who have already sampled milder Indica varieties and desire a heavier presence
- For enthusiasts who prefer traditional, ‘old school’, earthy/pine/fuel flavors rather than newer sweet/dessert type flavor profiles
- For anyone interested in experiencing authentic historical strains with well-proven genetics
- Experienced consumers seeking reliable sedative effects without sacrificing flavor.
Dose Wisely
Although Kush appears to be quite smooth upon inhalation, it can easily be misjudged and cause the consumer to ingest too large a dose prior to fully feeling the full extent of the effects. Sedating body effects build over approximately 15 – 30 minutes — therefore take patience when considering additional consumption. Lab tested Kush typically averages >24% THC. Due to Kush being Indica-dominant, dosages tend to lead towards excessive sedation/couch lock. Take small amounts at regular intervals.
