Cheese Strain – Britain’s Favourite Cannabis Variety
Each region has its “go-to” cannabis strain. In the United Kingdom, that is undoubtedly Cheese. Developed from a Skunk #1 phenotype discovered in England in the late 80s, Cheese evolved into one of the most recognizable cannabis varieties in Europe and a firm favourite among those who have tried it. It is certainly an aromatic strain, with a strong smell (pungent) that is unmistakable upon opening a package.

At Weed Wonderland, we carry a wide range of premium cannabis products — from classic strains like Blueberry to the latest genetics on the market.
Origin of Cheese
In 1988/89, Exodus developed a unique strain of cannabis called Cheese. This was developed from an unusual phenotype of Skunk #1 which produced a very pungent version of the plant. The Exodus group were able to create clones of this strain and distribute them throughout the UK. So many people created clones that, eventually, the strain evolved into what would later be referred to as Exodus Cheese. Today, the majority of Cheese strains available are stabilized seedlings, derived directly from this original strain. The goal of breeding these seeds was to reproduce the characteristics of the original Skunk #1 phenotypes.
Smell & Taste
As anyone familiar with Cheese will tell you; Cheese does NOT provide subtle aromas. There are several strong flavours that develop during smoking. These include; a pungent cheese type flavour (which some describe as ‘tangy’), an earthy skunk flavour and a hint of herbs. This produces a taste sensation that is both interesting and complex. After smoking Cheese, users will typically notice that the initial pungent flavour mellowed out quickly producing a smooth, sweet after-taste. It is impossible to deny your first time experiencing a well-grown Cheese strain. The dominant terpenes in Cheese are Myrcene, Caryophyllene and Limonene. Funky, Spicy and Unmistakably Unique.

Effects
Users often comment that Cheese provides a well-rounded, balanced high. Therefore it is no surprise that it continues to remain popular amongst all types of cannabis users across multiple generations. The effects are immediate; they begin as an uplifting euphoria providing a noticeable increase in mood and social confidence. Users will also experience a sense of happiness with the first few hits and it is common for people to smoke Cheese prior to social events as it helps produce a positive atmosphere. As the high progresses, users may feel a gentle physical relaxation that doesn’t cause drowsiness.
We recommend using Cheese for:
- Late afternoon or early evening sessions when you don’t want to totally switch off but just relax.
- Social gatherings where a relaxed, happy, chatty vibe is required.
- Those who prefer traditional cannabis varieties rather than newer, higher-THC varieties.
- Newbie’s who are interested in trying Indica-based varieties but are unsure if they will ‘like’ the effect.
- Anyone who enjoys smoking authentic historical cannabis strains with documented origins.
Dosage
Due to its consistently balanced and predictable high, Cheese is considered to be one of the friendlier Indica-dominant varieties. However, even well-cultivated strains can contain up to 22% THC so please take caution when consuming this strain if you are new to Indica-dominant strains. We recommend starting with either one or two draws and waiting approximately 15-20 minutes before making a decision to consume additional amounts of this strain. Although the high may seem forgiving due to its balance, patience will ultimately yield better results when experimenting with any new strain.
